Shout Out Saturday, June 2015

Year One

celebrating

I recently announced a milestone for myself and this blog. I have been on WP for a whole year now (and I’m nearly halfway through 2015 and still reaching my goal of updating daily). Today I bought myself a gift to celebrate the occasion. It is quite fitting since the traditional way to honor an anniversary in the first year is paper.

Happy Anniversary, Blog!
…or pencils.

Today was a good day and now I am off to color.

Shakespeare

What a great way to start the new month. Maggie over at The Novel Orange nominated me for a Liebster Award. It is an honor to be recognized by a fellow blogger and being nominated is always a surprise. Thank you for visiting my little corner of the blogosphere and many thanks to Maggie for the nomination. The Liebster Award is given to bloggers by other bloggers as a way to recognize and/or discover new blogs.

THE RULES
  1.  Thank and link the person who nominated you.
  2.  Answer the questions given by the nominator.
  3.  Nominate (insert your own number here) other bloggers, who have less than 200 followers, and link them.
  4.  Create new questions for the nominees to answer.
  5.  Notify all nominees via social media/blogs.
  6. Celebrate this achievement.
  7. Stay motivated and keep blogging.

My Questions

What is your Zodiac sign? Do you feel that your sign’s characteristics fit your personality? Why or why not?

I am a Libra. I am not sure if I believe in astrology but I would take Professor Trelawney’s Divination class if I were to attend Hogwarts. I think when we look at our horoscope, for example, we find the truth within the message instead of taking the message at face value. The same when you think about fortune telling. With that said, I think anything is possible and the subject matter is interesting. Some characteristics of Libra that I identify with: just, diplomatic, balanced, detached, indecisive, & laid-back.

What book were you required to read in school that you loved or despised the most?

I loved reading in school, often finishing work early to have free time for reading. In elementary school I read The Castle in the Attic¬†by Elizabeth Winthrop and loved it. It inspired a deeper love of reading and opened the door for more fantasy books to enter. I despised reading aloud in class because¬†I’m an introvert,¬†I have a quiet talking voice, and¬†I have never liked the sound of my speaking voice.

Do you have a favorite or lucky number or charm? If so, what is it and why does it bring you luck? What ultimately caused you to choose your unique charm?

13 has always been a favorite of mine (the day of my birth) but 7 is my most favorite number. I have always liked numbers; math was my favorite subject in school. There are numerous reasons I like the number seven but one of the biggest is that it is a prime number, the fourth prime number (and 13 is 1+3=4). It’s also a happy number, signifies the colors in a rainbow¬†and days in the week. Read more about the number seven here.

Are there any songs that correspond with and remind you of defining moments or experiences in your life? If yes, what songs bring back memories?

When I hear certain songs they take me back to certain times but not always. It usually happens when I have a significant memory to pair with the song or a stronger memory, for example the song I sang at my high school graduation will forever be in my mind for some reason (a milestone, I guess).

Do you keep a journal? Why or why not?

Yes but I write in it rarely. I need to get back in the habit of using it (I blame technology).

Do you have animals? If yes, let us know all about them! If not, why don’t you have pets?

The Three Amigos.

Not mine but I claim them as my own.

If you could emulate any author, whose writing style would you choose to possess?

This is such a tough question. I think I’d go with either the queen, JKR, for obvious reasons or Jane Austen because she was witty and ahead of her time.

What is your honest opinion of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series?

The books that lived.

What is the very first book or story you remember reading? How old were you and why does the tale resonate with you?

I really can’t remember the first first but when I was twelve or thirteen I read the bible (KJ version), the whole thing. I was really proud of myself because I didn’t know many adults that could say they have done that.

List your five favorite blogs!

Shout Out Saturday, May 2015

sosI felt like being random today. I expanded the idea of a #ff (follow Friday) into the next day, shout-out Saturday (which I guess is a thing, I just looked it up).

Since it’s the fifth month I decided to give a shout-out to five random followers of my blog. Go check them out, they have good taste in blogs. ūüėČ

Thanks for following me for one reason or another. I hope this might shine some light on the great work you’re doing over on your blog. Happy writing!

Important to Me

Music

Today I’m posing the question, what band or musician is important to you?

I found this a tough question. Narrowing a choice to one artist would be like picking your favorite child (to me at least). So I choose music in general. I listen to music at least once a day if not more. Without music my life would be black and white. The playlist below is a good example of what I have been listening to lately.

What’s on your playlist this week?

Going Places

5 places you want to visit

  1. Australia: I’m not sure why but ever since I did a report on Australia I have always wanted to visit. So for two decades I have been fascinated with the culture, the people, and the magic of Australia.¬†One day.
  2. Egypt/Africa: I basically want to visit everywhere. I combined the two because I am only making a list of five today. I want to visit Egypt for numerous reasons.
    1. my best friend lives there currently
    2. also, another report in middle school on Egypt led to a curiosity about the place
    3. I want to see the pyramids and the Nile, thanks to a love of my history Western Civilizations class.
    4. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Lion King. I want to visit Africa and see the circle of life in person.
  3. U.K.–numerous spots: all of the spots? I joke that I was born on the wrong continent. My love of the history, British TV, Scottish actors, and the scenery make me dizzy with lust. I¬†will¬†visit these places in my future. I must.
  4. India: is new to my obsession list. I was once intrigued by the many facets of India but the interest waned over time. I am getting newly acquainted with the loveliness of the country and all it has to offer.
  5. Alaska: The Last Frontier. I have a life goal to visit all 50 states before I turn 50, so of course I’m going to Alaska at some point, it’s a matter of when. I’m not that much of an outdoorsy girl but being in nature centers me. The open spaces, fresh air, and landscapes are soothing. I could spend a month in Alaska, sitting outside lost in thought, soaking up the beautiful surroundings.

What’s in a Name?

What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
–Shakespeare,¬†Romeo and Juliet

A breakdown of the name of this blog.

  • First, I go by¬†teafunny¬†a pun about my name, Tiffany. A friend started calling me this and it stuck, plus I like it.
  • daily dose of reality¬†is a phrase from¬†Stand Here With Me, a favorite song of mine.
  • The actual blog address is¬†busysbestie.¬†I first started blogging over on Blogger with my best friend Busy. When I wrote a post I would sign the end with BB, Busy’s Bestie, or just Bestie. I wanted “my own” blog name to use for commenting on the blogs we followed and interacted with regularly. I ended up using it as my own personal site now and never changed the name.

Also happy May the Fourth (be with you) and cinco de cuatro.

Diary of a Cat Lady

***

I find myself tossing and turning every night this last week. What do you do when you have trouble sleeping? I have the luxury of two cats, with a nocturnal schedule, keeping me awake at night or rather waking me up as I fall asleep. As I drift off to sleep I hear the purring first and then plop, there is a cat walking up my side settling in massaging my hip with kitty happy paws.

Waking up this morning to meowing wasn’t strange, the two of them were hungry. I stumble out of bed and feed the buggers. I wasn’t as grumpy as I could have been because I went to bed knowing I had an early morning. Sundays are a day to relax in our house. I normally wake up and read for an hour or two. Today was no different, I am slowly making my way through a nonfiction work.

We had a family outing scheduled for the afternoon. So after running to the coffeehouse for a latte and picking up some Mother’s Day cards I was back in the car and on my way to my brother-in-law’s workplace. It was great to see such an iconic place where so much amazing work gets done. My BIL was happy to show us around; he was a fun tour guide.

After making a stop to check out a sale after the tour we had to stop at the grocery store. This is usually a task but my niece was an angel. She loves going out, smiles at everyone. She’s such a ham.

It was an exhausting day. Whenever I am out in the sun it zaps my energy. Plus I walked around a mile or so in that building. Getting home was heavenly, I immediately kicked off my shoes and changed into comfy “house clothes”. You know the type, yoga pants and a tank top. No one wanted to cook (we rarely cook after going to the grocery store, weird) so pizza was ordered and we settled in for the night.

Today’s daily challenge was a detailed review of my day. I suck at the details but it’s something I’m working on.

How was your weekend?

Aye and Nay

LDL

Day 2 is basically an update in list form. I love making lists so here we go,¬†my ten (random) likes and dislikes…

Likes

  1. Rainy days especially when I can stay in and read a book or two.
  2. Coffee, coffeehouses, coffee culture, the smell of it brewing, all of it. I want to grow up and be a coffee snob.
  3. Music feeds my soul. I listen to most things but my go-to genre is indie rock or alternative. Today I was listening to Death Cab for Cutie so you decide what to label me as.
  4. Being near water, it calms me. When the weather is appropriate I swim. My ideal home is near a body of water.
  5. Random acts of kindness. The movie¬†Pay It Forward described the phenomena best (wasn’t that a great film?). I’m not a true believer of karma but I do send good vibes back out into the world, just in case.
  6. Learning. It may be new places, new things, or new people but learning is the greatest gift.
  7. People who love the skin they are in. It is a life goal to get to that place but I admire those that are there already.
  8. Photography. Seeing the beauty in my surroundings. Capturing a moment that will live on. Expression.
  9. Good chocolate, most sweets in general. I have a terrible sweet tooth.
  10. Sleep. I toss and turn falling asleep and have a hard time shutting down at night so when I get a peaceful night full of sleep it is amazing. Plus waking up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated is the best.

Dislikes

  1. Crying babies/kids
  2. Close-minded people
  3. Feeling hot and getting overheated/dehydrated.
  4. Inequality
  5. Ignorance
  6. Waiting
  7. Pollution, in all sorts, and our attitude as a society toward the Earth.
  8. Violence. I have seen enough in my life.
  9. Negative feelings–loneliness, despair, helplessness, hate, rage, etc.
  10. Bad drivers. Driving is a privilege not a right. Respect the road and other drivers.

I like how simple the dislike list is and it was easier to compile. The like list could go on for ages, my taste varies and my interests are diverse.

Thanks for checking out my lists.
