Whatcha Reading: October 2015

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! The weekly meme formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below to participate:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

My Reading Progress

Currently Reading: Of course I still have Hausfrau and The Jane Austen Book Club on my currently reading shelf because I keep picking up other books to read instead of these. Oh the struggle. I just finished An Ember in the Ashes last night so I haven’t picked up a new book yet. I’m still processing. I think after I write a few reviews I can get moving onto the next read.

Recently Finished: Since my last www update I’ve finished another 6 books (wow! that’s a lot for me):

  • Landline, Rainbow Rowell. I love her writing style so much. Her books are a breeze to read and fun.
  • Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon. This book was really good. The reading experience while reading this was different, in a good way. Hard to explain.
  • Just Breathe, Heather Allen. I picked this up from the Kindle library because one of my best buds has the same name. This book was missing something for me to really like it.
  • Time Between Us, Tamara Ireland Stone. I have had Every Last Word on my tbr pile for awhile now but never pick it up. I found this instead and it really surprised me. Great read.
  • Twenty Boy Summer, Sarah Ockler. I thought I would like this more but didn’t. I’ll try another Ockler novel but will have lower expectations going in.
  • An Ember in the Ashes, Sabaa Tahir. The hype surrounding this novel almost ruined it for me. I really loved this book but wasn’t “oohing and ahhing” over it like others have.

Up Next/Reading Challenges:

I will be focusing on my alphabet challenge until the end of the year (only two months left!?!?!) hoping to finish on time. I challenged myself to read 52 books on my Goodreads challenge and I’m currently 4 books ahead of schedule. I think I’ll finish that challenge before this A to Z challenge.

WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Thanks for stopping in and perusing my bookshelves. If you want to track more of my reading, find me on Goodreads. Happy reading!

Not since the days of Harry Potter have I spent time anticipating a book release. Usually, only my favorite authors capture my notice with an upcoming new release. Lately though, I have been exploring more and learning new things about the world of books. This week’s topic by The Broke and the Bookish is about new releases.

Fall is for Birthdays

The thirteenth is my birthday (tomorrow for the East Coast) and it is not an unlucky thing for me. My favorite treat is getting coffee delivered to me in bed, forget the breakfast. Last year I was surprised by a latte, and I’m hoping this continues to become a tradition.

My birthday seems to kick off the holidays. Halloween will soon be upon us and then we’ll be gearing up for Thanksgiving. Christmas shopping needs to begin so I don’t get behind. And before I know it I’ll be seeing Busy again and ringing in the new year. Time flies this time of year, which is sad because I miss the fall when it’s gone.

Fall Favorites

Day 5 and I’m still talking about Fall. I hope the rest of the month goes by slowly so that I can savor my favorite time of year and before it gets too cold outside. One of my favorites, and the favorite of most other white girls like me, is the Pumpkin Spice Latte, commonly known as the PSL.
SONY DSCThere are many different ways to enjoy a PSL and from different coffee establishments but my top choice is pictured above. This morning the temperature dropped from the previous few days and there was a beautiful fall chill in the air. It was the perfect moment to enjoy my cup of joe. I took the opportunity to relish the quiet house (I live with a newborn) in the early morning and catch up on my reading from my TBR (to be read) pile.

The holiday season brings many new flavors to the coffee scene and pumpkin is one I look forward to the minute it isn’t available anymore in the winter. I crave it all year long. One drink I haven’t had yet but is also equally held in high esteem is a spiced apple cider. Fall has the best drinks and food. What is on your fall must drink/eat list? S’mores, apple pie, PSL, cider, chai tea?

Awesome Autumn

The Best Season of All.

I love this time of year. I might be biased because my birthday is this month, but many claim that fall is their favorite season as well. Today is the first of October, my favorite month, and I want to share each day reasons I love this time of year. One of the first reasons is the changing colors of the season.

I was walking home from work and was experiencing one of life’s secret joys–the crackling crunch of fall leaves beneath your feet. My walk put me in a good mood, thank you endorphins, and lead me to daydreaming. Most days I spend a considerate amount of time thinking, hello I’m an introvert, but today was a nice think session. I’m not sure if it was the walking that helped or just being outside in the fall air. The almost rhythmic sound of my feet hitting the concrete ushered my thoughts in a forward motion, never staying long on one topic. I often overanalyze and my thoughts remind me of a hamster running on it’s wheel, however, today’s walk was a break from that norm and I had a positive flow of random thoughts. This lead to the idea I brainstormed on the way home of sharing more of my world through pictures. Enjoy, and go outside and find your awesome autumn (if you live in the Northern Hemisphere like I do).
