My Reading Progress

Currently Reading: Of course I still have Hausfrau and The Jane Austen Book Club on my currently reading shelf because I keep picking up other books to read instead of these. Oh the struggle. I just finished An Ember in the Ashes last night so I haven’t picked up a new book yet. I’m still processing. I think after I write a few reviews I can get moving onto the next read.

Recently Finished: Since my last www update I’ve finished another 6 books (wow! that’s a lot for me):

  • Landline, Rainbow Rowell. I love her writing style so much. Her books are a breeze to read and fun.
  • Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon. This book was really good. The reading experience while reading this was different, in a good way. Hard to explain.
  • Just Breathe, Heather Allen. I picked this up from the Kindle library because one of my best buds has the same name. This book was missing something for me to really like it.
  • Time Between Us, Tamara Ireland Stone. I have had Every Last Word on my tbr pile for awhile now but never pick it up. I found this instead and it really surprised me. Great read.
  • Twenty Boy Summer, Sarah Ockler. I thought I would like this more but didn’t. I’ll try another Ockler novel but will have lower expectations going in.
  • An Ember in the Ashes, Sabaa Tahir. The hype surrounding this novel almost ruined it for me. I really loved this book but wasn’t “oohing and ahhing” over it like others have.

Up Next/Reading Challenges:

I will be focusing on my alphabet challenge until the end of the year (only two months left!?!?!) hoping to finish on time. I challenged myself to read 52 books on my Goodreads challenge and I’m currently 4 books ahead of schedule. I think I’ll finish that challenge before this A to Z challenge.

wwwWelcome to WWW Wednesday! The weekly meme (I am opting to do monthly but I forgot last month, oops) formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below to participate:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading: I am currently reading Cress still, trying to finish but avoiding it all the same. I’ve also been juggling Hausfrau and The Jane Austen Book Club. Both are interesting but I’m usually not in the mood to read them. I also picked up Someone Like You and started it over the weekend.

Recently Finished: Scarlet and Cinder were my latest books I finished. The Lunar Chronicles sucked me in without much effort. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the books. If you’re curious what I read in August you could check out my month progress update here.

Up Next: I will be focusing on my alphabet challenge more but will sneak in a few “fun books” to keep my reading leisurely. I know I’m going to struggle with ‘q’ and ‘x’ authors/titles. Any suggestions?

What are you reading this month?

Reading Review, August 2015

Four years ago I read 54 books and I am hoping to get close to that number again for this year. I am currently at 37 books so 17 more books doesn’t seem like much but this time of year is a busy one.

This past month I managed to read 7 enjoyable books with my lowest rating a 3. Here’s the breakdown:

5star
Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility, audio book, 12 hrs and 43 mins

4star
Just ListenIsla and the Happily Ever AfterCinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)

Just Listen, 384 pages

Isla and the Happily Ever After, 368 pages

Cinder, 390 pages

Scarlet, 452 pages (my longest read!)

3star

Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1)Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2)
Anna and the French Kiss 3, 372 pages

Lola and the Boy Next Door 3, 384 pages

There’s my month in review. I need to get focused and get my A to Z challenge back on task. I have read 14/26 authors and 15/26 titles thus far which means I have the last half of the alphabet to read.

I hope September is as successful in reading as the last month. Happy reading, all!

Currently reading: I just started Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I read E&P, ages ago, first and have tried to get my hands on everything else RR has published. The characters come to life and it doesn’t feel like I’m reading a book. I never want the stories to end. I have heard only good things about Fangirl and can’t wait to devour it.

Fangirl

Recently finished: This is going to be a tribute to Rowell because that’s all my WWW is about this week. I just finished Attachments on Monday and I’m still thinking about it. I loved the characters and the story. It was a cute and fun read, exactly what I needed (I’ve been in a reading rut).

Attachments

Up next: I want to read more Rowell but I have a few ARCs to get to before that happens.

Have you read anything good lately?

www is the weekly meme hosted @ Taking on a World of Words.

It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means…time to dive into my reading progress by answering three simple questions.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading
Luckiest Girl Alive

I haven’t been too interested in reading my current lot which is sad. I tend to hop around, book to book, when I’m only mildly interested in the story. I’m hoping my next book is one that keeps me up past my bedtime because I can’t get enough.

Recently Finished

Althea and Oliver
My review of this recent read is still up in the air (writing reviews are tough for me). I thought this was a good read, but not great. I rated it a 3 out of 5 stars but it barely made a 3 star rating. The best friends finding love story line is one we all can relate to in one way or another but fell flat in this book. A & O is an interesting read but didn’t evoke enough feelings from me. I recommend borrowing it if the synopsis sounds interesting to you.

Up Next

The Diviners (The Diviners, #1)Due to receiving an ARC of Lair of Dreams, the second book in the series, book one is a must read so that I can get through my TBR ARC pile. I will probably read something fun like Fangirl or The Heir too. I really never know what book is up next.

What determines your next read?

Currently Reading

Hausfrau
I am struggling through these books and might move them back to my to-read shelf. Some books just can’t be read until the time is right.

Recently Finished

More enjoyable than the first.

The Ruby Circle3 of 5 stars
Just meh. I was expecting more from Mead. As a potential end to the VA world I wanted more of a farewell.
I still need to review Those Girls but I enjoyed these last few books I have finished. The one I liked the best was probably Richelle Mead, just because she’s one of my favorite authors and I know what to expect when I pick up one of her books.

Up Next

Love and Other Foreign WordsI'll Give You the SunThe Raven Boys
Hex HallThe Unbecoming of Mara DyerThe Winner's Kiss

Just a few that I have added recently. I am not sure what book I will pick up first but I’m looking forward to each of these for different reasons.

Well my first WWW Wednesday is complete finally. I hope you enjoy a look into my bookshelves.

What Do You Read?

fav authorsI was asked what kind of books do you read. Honestly, I’ll probably try to read any genre once. I hop around genres depending on my mood, a mood reader. Most often I find myself enjoying women’s fiction, young adult, literary fiction, or humor/memoir books. The authors above would be some of my favorites. I’ll always pick up their latest work and read it, no matter what; they have earned my trust as a reliable author.

This next group are also on my favorites list but a bit further down. Each author I like for a different reason and it’s hard to narrow down my interests to one specific genre or author. So the following will give you an idea of what I read and which authors reign supreme 🙂

How To Get More Reading Time

5 Habits via Jessica at BookRiot

All of us readers have this problem at one time or another–trying to squeeze in time to read. Here are a few tricks to get that book finished and that “to be read” pile down.

Read before bed, every single day.

Seems like common sense but that time spent reading before bed adds up. Set yourself a goal or time limit and stick to it. I have stayed up late finishing a book so I know the struggle but remember there is always tomorrow night to look forward to and a good book is worth the wait.

Read while on the move.

If you commute then you have the perfect opportunity for reading time. Also consider audiobooks, for those that walk or drive (I use audiobooks on the treadmill). I usually have one book picked out for commute reading. For example, a thin paperback that if it gets lost or damaged I would not be as heartbroken as if it were a more prized book.

Interact with other readers.

This will get you recommendations for other books. It will spread book love around because I know we all like to talk about stories we love. You may even forge a friendship over your passion for reading.

Lunchtime equals book time.

Reading during a meal used to make me feel like a loner, but I would rather have an enjoyable meal while reading than sit and pretend to be involved in the lunch table’s conversation. This habit of reading while eating was instilled at a young age for me and I still read at lunch during the work week.

Wake up and read.

I like to spend an hour or two on the weekend just reading. It is my relaxing time. My favorite time to read is when I wake up in the morning on Saturday or Sunday while I’m still being lazy getting a chapter or two in before I start my day.

When do you fit in your reading time?
