My Thoughts Exactly

My thoughts have been with my book (current read) today, so tonight I’m retiring early to read the night away.

My Thoughts Exactly

1t5s, Summer

When I think of summer I imagine adventures and time spent outdoors. This summer I have no grand plans but my adventures will be found in either books or outside soaking up the rays by the pool. I love the water so you will find me near it in one way or another. This is my least favorite season but I’ll make the most of it. My one summer goal is to get out more.

Pairs

Things that just go together are one of life’s greatest gifts. Tonight I had my favorite sweet tooth indulging snack, peanut butter and jelly. It is the small things that bring the biggest smile to my face whether it be in my kitchen, in literature, in people, or life. Pairs help make the world a better place. Here are some of my favorites:

  • milk and cookies
  • simon & garfunkel
  • sam and frodo
  • ying & yang
  • holmes and watson
  • peanut butter & chocolate
  • cats and dogs
  • ben & jerry
  • romeo and juliet
  • lightening & thunder
  • mulder and scully
  • lewis & clark
  • sun and moon
  • night & day

1t5s, Routine

Bedtime

Once upon a time I used to feed off of following a schedule/routine but nowadays I am struggling with my time management skills. Every night I swear to myself that it will be different and this will be the night I actually get to bed on time. I haven’t been sleeping well at night, a new disturbance as of late, so a routine before bed is critical. One of my biggest problems are these pesky things called books; reading before bed has always been a comfort of mine. I suffer from one more chapter’itis but tonight, I swear, is going to be different.

1t5s, Introductions

I heard about this idea from oui depuis, one thought in five sentences. Join for a day, a week, or the rest of the month–check out the link for more details. I found the idea an interesting one and I’m always struggling over new blog topics. I’ll be brainstorming over the next week but let’s get started with day one:

Introductions

It is difficult meeting new people, especially for someone that spends most of their time inside their own head. I am constantly looking for new ideas for ways to connect with others and the best way I have found is my blog. It is easy to search and find bloggers with similar views as your own and you get what you put in to building connections. This is an area I am still trying to improve–keeping connections alive. We are half way through the year and I look forward to discovering new blogs and keeping up with the ones I already follow.

Seven Things.

For me Sunday marks the beginning of a new week. It is the end of the weekend and usually a day devoted to rest but it also a day in which I try to finish up the week’s worth of things on my to do list.

Seven things still on my mind from this past week:

  1. The dog needs a haircut, in fact, so do I. The weather is starting to change and it is the “kick off of summer” because of the holiday so a shorter hairdo is in order before it gets sweltering outdoors. Also I’m debating, fringe or not?
  2. I am behind on my (required by me) reading and need to get in gear to move on to more books. Also, I need to catch up on reviews that have yet to be written.
  3. I am a crappy friend and unless I write on my to do list to email people or call so-and-so for their birthday I will forget. If I were offered one upgrade to my current self, I would choose a memory that works just like google.
  4. This last week I finished a few projects but I still have some past their deadline. I need to stay motivated this week to get things done again. I did manage to get caught up in numerous areas so I’m not too worried about feeling bogged down this week.
  5. I did a blog redesign but now I need to get more organized and more interaction with followers and blogs I follow. There is always room to improve.
  6. Cookies will be made this week because they have been on my list of things to do for the longest. Yum, cookies!
  7. It’s almost time to switch out the wardrobe for lighter layers since the hot weather is encroaching. This means I have a date with my closet this week and I’ll be making a trip to the donation drop center again. But on the plus side, I am making room for new clothes to take the space of the old I don’t use.

Top Ten FIVE Inspiring Quotes from Books

The topic this week from The Broke and the Bookish is a tough one. So many books have great lines and memorable dialogue, but which to choose. One feature I love (and sold me on reading eBooks) about my Kindle is the highlighting/note option. The thought of writing in a book used to terrify me but with an eBook it is manageable. I highlight things that make me laugh or witty words, sometimes even things to ponder later or share with a friend. Now on to the list of quotes.

“The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure…” Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling

One thing I love about the Harry Potter series are the memorable quotes. There are times that I wish my mind were like a library because I have a terrible memory.

“I regret that it takes a life to learn how to live.” Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer

“It was not the feeling of completeness I so needed, but the feeling of not being empty.” Everything Is Illuminated, Jonathan Safran Foer

Foer has three quotes in my top ten list on Goodreads. These two are my favorites. Both are about living life which is something I over analyze. One of my goals is to adopt the lifestyle of carpe diem. I think that living in the moment will cut the stress out of my life and help me to value the present.

“We accept the love we think we deserve.” The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky

I read this book at exactly the right time to fully appreciate it. This quote stayed with me for months after finishing the novel. I have never thought about love in these terms but feel this rings true for me.

“Books are to me as homemade tattoos are to an inmate. Can’t get enough of them.” I Love Everybody, Laurie Notaro

I love Notaro. Her humor speaks to me and I always laugh when reading her work.

I only chose five quotes instead of ten because there are so many inspiring words out there and the five above are my current favorites from books I have read.

Awesome Autumn

The Best Season of All.

I love this time of year. I might be biased because my birthday is this month, but many claim that fall is their favorite season as well. Today is the first of October, my favorite month, and I want to share each day reasons I love this time of year. One of the first reasons is the changing colors of the season.

I was walking home from work and was experiencing one of life’s secret joys–the crackling crunch of fall leaves beneath your feet. My walk put me in a good mood, thank you endorphins, and lead me to daydreaming. Most days I spend a considerate amount of time thinking, hello I’m an introvert, but today was a nice think session. I’m not sure if it was the walking that helped or just being outside in the fall air. The almost rhythmic sound of my feet hitting the concrete ushered my thoughts in a forward motion, never staying long on one topic. I often overanalyze and my thoughts remind me of a hamster running on it’s wheel, however, today’s walk was a break from that norm and I had a positive flow of random thoughts. This lead to the idea I brainstormed on the way home of sharing more of my world through pictures. Enjoy, and go outside and find your awesome autumn (if you live in the Northern Hemisphere like I do).
