Whatcha Reading: October 2015

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! The weekly meme formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below to participate:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

My Reading Progress

Currently Reading: Of course I still have Hausfrau and The Jane Austen Book Club on my currently reading shelf because I keep picking up other books to read instead of these. Oh the struggle. I just finished An Ember in the Ashes last night so I haven’t picked up a new book yet. I’m still processing. I think after I write a few reviews I can get moving onto the next read.

Recently Finished: Since my last www update I’ve finished another 6 books (wow! that’s a lot for me):

  • Landline, Rainbow Rowell. I love her writing style so much. Her books are a breeze to read and fun.
  • Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon. This book was really good. The reading experience while reading this was different, in a good way. Hard to explain.
  • Just Breathe, Heather Allen. I picked this up from the Kindle library because one of my best buds has the same name. This book was missing something for me to really like it.
  • Time Between Us, Tamara Ireland Stone. I have had Every Last Word on my tbr pile for awhile now but never pick it up. I found this instead and it really surprised me. Great read.
  • Twenty Boy Summer, Sarah Ockler. I thought I would like this more but didn’t. I’ll try another Ockler novel but will have lower expectations going in.
  • An Ember in the Ashes, Sabaa Tahir. The hype surrounding this novel almost ruined it for me. I really loved this book but wasn’t “oohing and ahhing” over it like others have.

Up Next/Reading Challenges:

I will be focusing on my alphabet challenge until the end of the year (only two months left!?!?!) hoping to finish on time. I challenged myself to read 52 books on my Goodreads challenge and I’m currently 4 books ahead of schedule. I think I’ll finish that challenge before this A to Z challenge.

WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Whatcha Reading: September 2015

wwwWelcome to WWW Wednesday! The weekly meme (I am opting to do monthly but I forgot last month, oops) formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below to participate:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading: I am currently reading Cress still, trying to finish but avoiding it all the same. I’ve also been juggling Hausfrau and The Jane Austen Book Club. Both are interesting but I’m usually not in the mood to read them. I also picked up Someone Like You and started it over the weekend.

Recently Finished: Scarlet and Cinder were my latest books I finished. The Lunar Chronicles sucked me in without much effort. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the books. If you’re curious what I read in August you could check out my month progress update here.

Up Next: I will be focusing on my alphabet challenge more but will sneak in a few “fun books” to keep my reading leisurely. I know I’m going to struggle with ‘q’ and ‘x’ authors/titles. Any suggestions?

What are you reading this month?

Top Ten Tuesday, Tales as Old as Time

FairyTale RETELLINGs on my tbr list

1. The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman. Half Snow White and part Sleeping Beauty, Gaiman is always clever in weaving a story full of magic.

2/3/4. Cinder/Scarlet/Cress by Marissa MeyerThe Lunar Chronicles has been on my radar for awhile but I haven’t gotten around to reading the series yet. I think I’ll get around to these just as the next book in the series is released late this fall.

5. The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee AhdiehSo much buzz on this one. People have read it and gush, gush, gush all about how great it was. I am looking forward to getting around to this one. A love story inspired by A Thousand and One Nights.

6. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. MaasAnother widely popular book on the interwebs. A Beauty and the Beast blended fantasy story sounds pretty amazing. I think 95% of the readers of this book loved it. I’m hoping I fall into the majority.

7. The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie OakesBased on the Grimm fairy tale The Handless Maiden, I imagine this book will take me by surprise. It has been dubbed a page turner and we all love those types of books. Looking forward to getting my hands on this one.

8. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah OcklerThe Little Mermaid was on repeat in my house the year it was released on VHS. My sister and I loved that movie and we even had to buy a new copy because we wore the tape out. This book sounds right up my alley.

9. Mystic City by Theo LawrenceRomeo and Juliet, enough said.

10. The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. A school “where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains.” I imagine it as Hogwarts mixed with Hans Christian Andersen. Sounds entertaining.

I imagine a lot of top tens have a similar combination. This is a niche genre that I have only recently started to delve into. Until next time, readers.

Whatcha Reading, July 2015

wwwWelcome to WWW Wednesday! The weekly meme (I am opting to do monthly) formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below to participate:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently reading: I just started Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I read E&P, ages ago, first and have tried to get my hands on everything else RR has published. The characters come to life and it doesn’t feel like I’m reading a book. I never want the stories to end. I have heard only good things about Fangirl and can’t wait to devour it.

Fangirl

Recently finished: This is going to be a tribute to Rowell because that’s all my WWW is about this week. I just finished Attachments on Monday and I’m still thinking about it. I loved the characters and the story. It was a cute and fun read, exactly what I needed (I’ve been in a reading rut).

Attachments

Up next: I want to read more Rowell but I have a few ARCs to get to before that happens.

Have you read anything good lately?

Top Ten Tuesday, mergers and acquisitions

Top Ten Tuesday, Dissecting the TBR Pile

ttt

This week’s topic by The Broke and the Bookish is about books I hope to read one day or have been buried on my TBR list because there is a lot of buzz about them in the interwebs. Basically a whole lot of YA because I’m behind and book series.

Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read

tbrFirst

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Legend by Marie Lu

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

(a reread) The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

It is a problem many bookworms face but making this list has me realizing that no matter how many books I read there will be five to ten more that I add to my to be read list. So many books, so little time.

Whatcha Reading, June 2015

www
www is the weekly meme hosted @ Taking on a World of Words.

It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means…time to dive into my reading progress by answering three simple questions.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading
Luckiest Girl Alive

I haven’t been too interested in reading my current lot which is sad. I tend to hop around, book to book, when I’m only mildly interested in the story. I’m hoping my next book is one that keeps me up past my bedtime because I can’t get enough.

Recently Finished

Althea and Oliver
My review of this recent read is still up in the air (writing reviews are tough for me). I thought this was a good read, but not great. I rated it a 3 out of 5 stars but it barely made a 3 star rating. The best friends finding love story line is one we all can relate to in one way or another but fell flat in this book. A & O is an interesting read but didn’t evoke enough feelings from me. I recommend borrowing it if the synopsis sounds interesting to you.

Up Next

The Diviners (The Diviners, #1)Due to receiving an ARC of Lair of Dreams, the second book in the series, book one is a must read so that I can get through my TBR ARC pile. I will probably read something fun like Fangirl or The Heir too. I really never know what book is up next.

What determines your next read?
